Barred Owl

Shot this image in the Hell's Half Acre section of the Western Slough area southeast of Tallahassee, FL. My grandson spotted this beauty and the owl was a gracious host, staying put with I shot this image. If you look closely at the large version, you'll notice it's right eye appears to be damaged. It was slightly lighter in color and appeared to be cloudy.

D2x, 1/500 @ f/8, 280 mm (70-200 VR w/ 1.4 TC-E), 320 ISO, Tripod

The lighting was very spotty as this section of swamp is VERY thick. I did the best I could.

Critiques and comments always welcomed and greatly appreciated.

Congrats capturing this owl out in daylight Bill. You did a nice job getting this shot through the thick foliage.

Excellent, Bill. Great job getting it mostly in the clear and the busy bg doesn't really detract. It was neat that you had that nice dark blue sky instead of the light overcast we usually seem to have when I'm in this situation.

Well done on this difficult capture Bill,
Very interesting look at the damaged right eye, but this Owl seems to be handling the handicap quite well as it appears very healthy.

And I thought Hell's Half Acre was in Wyoming all these years. What a neat look at this owl. The lighting looks good to me and I like how the bird is size matched with the clump of leaves on it's right. Yes I can see the half closed eye. I've read that owls mostly hunt by sound, so maybe the damaged eye isn't such a big disadvantage.
