Late last night I found myself driving over to Gardiner, Montana, in hopes of photographing the eclipse at Roosevelt Arch but clouds moved in before the moon reached totality. A little disappointed I headed for home and while driving through Yellowstone the clouds cleared briefly. I was able to make a few images here at Soda Butte Cone, in the Lamar Valley. I didn't arrive home until about 4:30 this morning but it was well worth it.
This is actually a composite of three images, two for the landscape at 14mm, and one for the moon, taken at 200mm. During post I scaled down the moon to a size that was more believable.
Thought I'd post it here rather than photo art since the techniques I used were to capture the dynamic range of the scene, particularly the moon. Everything in the photo was indeed there, so there was nothing added. I always struggle with these types of shots since they feel so contrived, but thought I'd share it here to see what you guys thought.

I wonder about making the planet next to it smaller and less prominent?
