Sunrise light and spring wildflowers (Arrowleaf Balsamroot and Lupine) in the Columbia Hills of Washington. The waning gibbous moon is also visible above the tree.

The wildflowers and sunrise light were incredible yesterday morning. It was a fun morning of shooting with some of the best photographers in the Pacific Northwest (Jeremy Cram, Alan Howe, Michael Bollino, Christina Angquico, Scott Miller, Alex Noriega, Paul Bowman, TJ Thorne). It was a great morning to be out in the hills, because there was almost no wind. Strong winds are quite common in the Columbia Hills and can make photography a nightmare. The lack of wind yesterday made capturing and processing this image a breeze (pun intended)!

Nikon D800, Nikkor 14-24, no filters
4 image blend for dynamic range and DOF
1/8 sec at f/11, ISO 100 for the sky/tree
1/25 sec at f/13, ISO 400 for the foreground flowers

This shot has become a real Columbia Gorge classic. The composition, tones, colors and DOF are all remarkable.

Beautiful work, Scott. I really like the subtle lighting. I hope you got some images with the lupine in the foreground as well as the color of the lupine would compliment the sky nicely.

The colors are so striking in this image Scott, and I love the composition. The moon in the frame really completes this wonderful image. Spot on work with the processing!

Yesterday, huh, guess that means that it's unlikely that the Balsamroot will be blooming when I get to Montana next month. This is a terrific look at the flowers (they really pop) set in a lovely scene with beautiful sunrise light. Truely luscious! Your blending look perfect.
