A bit of a different take on this species. they usually sing from a slightly elevated perch. This one was on a dead Scotch Broom on my right as I approached, but flew across in front of me and landed in the prairie. It proceeded to find a slightly elevated clump and sang from there. Not a purists image, but I like the habitat.

1Div, 500mm f4 ISL + 2.0TC, beanbag on car window. f11, 1/500, iso 500, Av mode, no exposure comp. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 11.3MP of the original 16. Taken May 1st at 7:12 am on a local county preserve.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Dennis, I like the concept and the basic comp. The technicals look good as does the detail. The OOF grass to either side of the eye and the second one to the right of the eye are just too dominant for me.

The bird still stands out in spite of the OOF grasses to the front, great singing pose and catch-light..
Very good details on the bird, nice job manually focusing here Dennis..:toast:
