Nikon D300 with Nikon 200-400. F6.3 1/250 ISO640

I placed my camera on a tripod with a remote release near the tree nest. Both parents provided an amazing amount of food for their hungry young inside the nest. Once they landed on the tree I started using the remote to record their progress. This image had one of the more interesting bugs. They hear the shutter clicks and look at the camera. Does not stop feeding so I guess it was only a minor annoyance to them.

Comments and critiques please. Is the balance between tree and green background correct ?

I learn from every post.

I like everything about this Andrew, nice. No bluebirds here yet..
I first thought it a bit too dark, but after viewing large I take that back:smile:
Well done! :toast:

Looks fine this way, but you could also bring it in just a bit tighter, using a standard 4:5 print ratio.
Would eliminate some of the space up top?

Beautiful, Andrew.
It would be a great image without the "food", even better with that!

Lovely image Andrew. The look back pose with prey at the cavity entrance really puts this over the top. Thanks for posting, Dave

Andrew, I'm fine with the bird being centered here. It's a very nice pose. If the camera is capable of producing decent images at a slightly higher ISO, I'd consider bumping it a bit in order to allow you to achieve more depth of field (to get more of the bird in focus), but you did well here.

Yummy! Well done. I wouldn't change a thing. You are within 98% of a 4:5 crop already. Don't try to fix what ain't necessarily broke!

Killer image. Love the head turn with the prey in beak. You may consider another round of NR on the BG. While this crop works very well, I might consider a tad more room on the bottom and a slight crop off of the left. The bottom is feel slightly cramped.
