Snow on the Beach

by Karsten Wrobel

I came to this place on a late morning after some snowfall.
The sky was pretty covered, yet there was snow on the black sand dunes.
The mountains in the back looked like they were straight out of a charcoal drawing.
Struggled to find the right comp, hope to have done this particular mood justice.

This is a pano of 4 shots.
Please view large.

The textures in the dunes and the distant mountains are great. I also really like your comp. and the stormy sky. I do wish for just a bit more detail in the foreground shadows, even in the larger version these look mostly black. Admittedly, I'm viewing on my laptop in a bright room, so there's some chance that there are details there that I'm not seeing.

Mark is right about shadow detail. Contrast seems way up and that is maybe part of the problem. Great comp so plenty to look forward to from this image.

Fantastic bw photography. Also the pano format works great and how you worked out a good foreground for such a wide view. The repost with more tones in the fg looks even better, mor what a print would look like (or should?).

I love the almost abstract quality to this shot. I love the textures in the distant mountains.I would love to see a bit more details in the darks in the foreground...so for that reason I'd prefer the repost. Great shot

Karsten, This is a wonderful b&w image and I really enjoyed looking at your large version. I agree the repost works even better. Bet this would make a great print! Nice work! :toast:

Is it possible to open up the shadows in the FG just a little bit, Karsten?

Best wishes,
Carol

What a graphic location, Karsten. I really like the pano comp and the repost. Sensational B/W, I love the BG mtn and it does look like a charcoal. Beautiful work. :toast:

Really dig the B&W treatment. I might suggest a crop off the right to eliminate the dunes there for sake of balance in the image. Suites the mood perfectly! :toast:
