Love the "Who, me?" look, Charlie. Do we get the back story?

Great shot. He does look guilty, or were you interrogating him harshly?

An unusual view; well done.
As Jim asks - what's the back story on this?

The back story:
Peregrines have been doing very well here in California. This was taken at a nest site in the middle of one of the most tourist soaked spots on the planet. It's probably their fourth year using the same nest. I think I can locate a nest every five miles or so as you travel up the coast from San Diego all the way to Los Angeles, and there are even more inland. This is the mom, and she just finished feeding her four babies. These young are out of the nest and flying, but not hunting on their own yet. You can get very close to them if you like, they don't mind. (Even Patrick was able to get one or two shots ) In fact they will practically land at your feet. Mom brought in some kind of shorebird and we watched two of the young pull it apart and feast for 15 minutes or so. Then she went over and took it away and let the other two finish it off.
Nearby are two other nests with young that are about to fledge. We should be in Peregrine photos for quite a while. Thanks for the comments too!

Thans for the background info. I've been trying to convince my wife it is time for a drive to San Diego, so maybe this will help convince her.

Great angle, Charlie, it provides an interesting perspective. Even with the head closer, those feet are enormous. Thanks for the background. I need to get down there one of these years.

Charlie,
Yep.....It's that wonderful time of the year again and we are in hog heaven here with peregrines. When I saw yesterdays images I figured this is the one you would pick. It's the one I would have picked. Title says it all. Good background story as well. I'm probably going to have to wait until the La Jolla birds fledge because I won't be around at all this weekend and they should be fledged by the weekend after that. Hope you are able to take advantage of this great opportunity over the next few weeks. Nice shooting with you last night. Cheers!

The look is priceless. Love the feathers and flecks of blood - particularly interesting is the feather sticking out. Rock makes a great perch too

Charlie, I have to say...I am very envious of you and David. Photographing these guys just has to be a blast! nice image. I am not normally someone who looks for Anthropomorphism in animal behavior, but I especially like the look on the Peregrine's face....he/she almost looks guilty....kind of like someone just caught with the hand in the cookie jar.
