Clouded Skippers in May

F/8, 1/200th, ISO 800, Canon 1D M3, Sigma 150mm f/2.8 + 1.4x ext. with fill flash & overcast with a monopod for support.

Note: I could probably do without the 1.4x extension here. I use it primarily because it gives me more distance from the subject, so as not to disturb. And with decent light, it still auto focuses well..

The Clouded Skipper (Lerema accius) is a butterfly of the Hesperiidae family. It is found in the United States from Georgia west to Texas, south to Florida, and south through Mexico and Central America to Venezuela and Colombia.

WOW, you sure seem to get such striking detail out of these type of shots, Howard. Additionally your images seem to have the best in somewhat soft lighting too. Excellent.......

Good detail and strong, simple comp. It doesn't get much better than this! Maybe with sound effects a la "When Harry met Sally"?

Hi Howard! This is well-composed image with a smooth green background that brings out the insects well. F/8 looks like it was a good choice for DOF.
