Savannah Sparrow

After years of carrying a camera while driving the little gravel road we live on and having the sparrows fly away, I managed to catch both a Savannah and a White-crowned on the same morning in decent light. The Savannah gave me several perches and a lot of poses. This was one of my favorites.

1Div, 500mm f4 ISL + 2.0TC, hand held with support from car window, f11, 1/400, iso 500, -2/3 stop compensation, aperture priority. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped from horizontal to square-full height. The perch is Scotch (or Scot's) Broom an invasive I've been fighting for 16 years now. Unfortunately, some of the neighbors don't do anything about it so this is part of a two lot stretch (~1000 feet) of uninhibited growth. Taken yesterday morning at 8:23 am.

Your comments and criticisms are most appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

I like all the complimentary yellows, and it's an unusual pose with the beak tucked in like this..
Nice & sharp where it must be, well done Dennis! :toast:

Tack-sharp where it matters, Dennis. Preening behavior is always fun. The perch is a bit distracting and draws the eye away from the subject. Not sure what you could so about that; sometimes the bird doesn't get the memo.

Maybe an invasive plant for you, but it sure compliments the bird nicely. I like the bill tucked in pose you caught. Sharon

Dennis
Sharon is correct, the yellow does highlight the Sparrow's crown. Nice job.
