Nothing seriously wrong with this, Patrick. A little heavy on the sharpening and some small blown whites. Both easily handled in the processing. I would be tempted to turn this 90 degrees CW.

Welcome back from the future!

Hi--Nice first attempt. Soft lighting is key with shiny bodied insects. I agree with Phil that a little tweaking of the highlights and less sharpening will work on this gem. ................................Jim

Outstanding Patrick,
The colors and details are superb on this one. I like Phil's idea about the rotation but this seems certainly fine as is.
Well done . . . :toast:

Excellent plane of focus & use of f/8 Patrick.
The use of flash is tricky with certain subjects, this being one..
I like the comp, BG, and colorful 'perch' here.
Well done :toast:

Howard,
This was taken with natural light only. The light in Maine is very bright. Until i went there I did not know why Andrew Wyeth's paintings are so bright. :toast:

Very nice, Patrick. You did well composing this to include the nice floral perch while isolating the subject form the bg. Good detail on the wasp, also. The wasp's colorful eye is a great focal point. Not sure how this was originally taken, but you could crop the left side to make this into a standard 35mm ratio (vertical).

Forgive me for assuming the use of flash Patrick. This subject tricked me with its shiny body & sunny conditions.
You might include time of day & cloudy, sunny, overcast, etc. to avoid confusion in the future?
Not to mention the light shines mainly on the plain in 'Maine'
