D300 ISO 200 F6.3 1/500 18-200mm @ 90 mm

Was doing sunrise shots along the bay and spooked this heron and fired off a couple quick shots. Was very surprised to find one that actually froze him in flight at 1/500th

The sky light is a lovely color and I've spent enough beach time to recognize the wave in the distance. I also like the heron and what looks to be it's take off splash near the lrc. Nice catch.

This image has an abstract quality that causes the viewer to pause a bit when first viewing. The darker layer in the middle of mountains and water bordered by brighter sky on top and reflection on the bottom is a bit disorienting at first but also adds to the uniqueness and interest of this shot. And the heron silhouette is over the bright water rather than in the sky, which is where you first think it is. Plus the pose of the bird in flight is interesting too! All in all, I like this shot for both its uniqueness, the interesting comp of the elements, and the wonderful colored layers.

I like the graphic and abstract quality of this image. Beautiful layers of colors and light/darkness. Excellent work.
