Indian Rhino with calf

In the beginning of April we visited Kaziranga NP in Assam, India. A beautiful area, not visited by many foreign tourists. The park is well known for its population of One-horned Rhinos. We had several encounters with those magnificent animals. Sometimes close and sometimes a bit further away. I like this ' animalscape' in the late afternoon light.

Amazing image showing the size of these animals compared to their surroundings (with the bird in the LRC helping provide scale). I love the colors too

Ellen,
I visited Kaziranga a few years back and it was probably the only place in India I could consider returning to, the "crowds" are not so manic
This capture the park and its most famous inhabitants perfectly :toast: :toast:

I like the excellent sense of scale given by the relative size of rhinos to surrounding vegetation! Nice capture.

A lovely animalscape, Ellen - the larger version is worth checking out for sure.
Do you have one where mom looked up as well?

I just love these subject-small-in-the-frame shots, showing the beautiful landscape of Kaziranga. This park had less than 20-30 rhinos at the turn of the last century, and has now bounced back. There are still very serious threats, though, from poachers and every year more than 30 rhinos are killed for their horns. The forest staff is doing a remarkable, dangerous and thankless job preventing poaching and trophy hunting.
