Cobra?

You will be excused if you mistook this for a cobra. It has similar colouring, it has a large round pupil, the scales on its head are large, and it even flattens its head to mimic one! But, it has faint transverse whitish markings along its length, which are more prominent in the young, but fade away in the adult. This is a non-venomous and uncommon one. In fact, this is my first sighting of this species.
Species: Banded racer (Argyrogena fasciolata)
Location: Near Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Date: May 2014
Equip: Canon 1Dx, Canon 300 f2.8
Specs: ISO 100, f6.3, 1/250s, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 0 exp comp, hand-held, standing

Thank you for taking the time out to look, and for your comments/critiques.

Ajit,
Well I am very glad it is not poisonous.
I like this as is but wonder if a vertical crop may be even better, basically taken quite a lot from the left
Great DOF

This one is special. Light, subject and composition are all there. In addition to a tack sharp capture of the snake's head with its tongue extended, I like seeing the small highlights of the body as it trails off to the left. Congrats. Richard

I find no nits. Excellent effect achieved with ONLY the head of the snake in focus. :toast:
