Devil's Trio

This is from my recent trip in southern Utah. Devil's Garden is in Grand Staircase about 12 miles southeast of UT 24 near Escalante. I have posted a few images of this formation from different angles. There are actually four hoodoos in this group. From this vantage point, the fourth one is out of frame on the left. This comp is similar to one that Ian Plant posted, where he used several flash exposures on a long exposure. Mine is of course in natural morning light. Here's a link to Ian's image.

Nice, clean light and an appealing composition. I also appreciate the natural looking processing. Well done.

This is cool, Bill. I love the shapes and the sky is a nice compliment to them. The processing looks great, except that you might look at the very bright areas in the hoodoos--they look a little hot to me.

Compositionally, this works very well, but I'm wondering if you could have set up so that the far right hoodoo wasn't 'sitting' on top of the foreground rock? It may not have been possible for you move to the left a bit, so I'll give you a 'pass' on that one.

Nicely done!

Makes me think of a flame and the bright light on the subject certainly adds to that impression. I like this a lot as posted. Very striking.

I like the comp a lot,Bill. I do agree with Preston that the brightest parts of the hoodoo's are too bright. Tone those down a little and it's right on.

That is a neat trio of shapes, Bill. Feels like they're the guardians to a special world back there and they're set off nicely by the sky. Some of the brightest areas in the rocks seem hot, toning them down would enhance an already special view.

I always enjoy seeing photos from this area. This is an excellent composition from this site too, Bill. No thoughts for change on this scene, looks fine to me....

This is a cool shot, Bill. I too like your processing on this but agree with Preston that the brightest highlights might be toned down a bit. Other than that this looks very nice to me. These formations really are quite amazing!
