Texas Spiny Lizard (male) on oak, in shade with the unavoidable use of flash.
It did fill the shadows & provide a bit of spark in its eye..
Managed a good look at the turquoise colored belly as well.
F/11, 1/320th, ISO 640, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4x @ 5:00pm in the shade with fill flash. Monopod for support. Shot date 6/18/2014
The greens of the background are a blend of distant tomato & asparagus high, cantaloupe low. Subject was 3-4 feet up from the ground, on the side of the tree trunk.

It's back and sides sure do blend well with the tree, Howard. Then there's that neat iridescent belly. It's way cool that you caught some of those belly colors.

I reckon if these critters were the size of Komodo Dragons they be harder to photograph and that look they always seem to have would be taken a wee bit more seriously. As it is, they're just cute. Nice work, Howard.

I love the look he's giving you! The narrowed sideways look certainly sends a message of "back off" in my opinion. Well, this certainly is something I don't see in my backyard! Nice to see the very cool coloring on its stomach and all the great details on this guy. Great background too. . .but your description made me hungry.
