Bridal Veil II

This image is from a special morning last year, composed from the Tunnel View area. Right away I felt it would make a great B&W, so I processed it as such and never gave living color a fair shot. I finally went back to see what I could make of it in color, and here's the result so far. I'm particularly interested in any processing feedback and recommendations - what you might do differently if you were working on it yourself.

The B&W version from last year is HERE. Let me know if you have a preference between the two.

I like this version better than the B & W, which I also liked.
Just a killer view, hard to go wrong with either.
That fog.........

I am generally not the biggest fan of B+W, and this is no exception. This is a stunning picture, and in my world, the colors add a lot to the scene so I definitely prefer this one.

Very powerful image, with great processing. I much prefer this color image over the b&w version.

Jared, This looks fantastic! I really liked this one in b&w but excellent work on this color version as well. Both are wonderful images in my book. Not sure I could pick a favorite between the two right now. :toast: :toast:

Jared,

This is really spectacular. I generally prefer black and white but in this case, the color seems more dynamic and seems to me to show off the light better.

On my Macbook I'm seeing a white edge in places on the viewer's right. Not sure what that is.

I might darken the dead pine in the right bottom quadrant a touch or maybe desaturate it a little also.

Gorgeous...

Both are nice, but B&W is preferred for me. My eye is more directed in the zig zag and wanders less to the blue BG and the pine in the FG

Interesting comparison between the two versions. I prefer this one because of the warm to cool tonal change from the fog to the distant mountains and because the touch of warmth that the tree in the lower right adds. (I'm guessing it's a dying evergreen). It's a great view, especially with the fog. To me, the larger version looks over sharpened in the foreground trees.

I prefer the B&W, Jared. I think it's more dramatic.

In the color version, the blue/cyan in the far background, in Bridal Veil, and the cloud to its right are a little over-saturated. I also agree about toning down the dead pine. I also agree that FG in the large version looks a bit over-sharpened.

This is a nice image of an awesome place.

An amazing atmosphere image Jared, but I prefer the B&W for its greater drama. Don't get me wrong, both have their strong points but the B&W version speaks volumes to me.

Definitely like the color version better. The golden fog is really special.

The composition is beautiful as well as the scene.
I prefer the color version even if the B&W is great.
For me, the color one speaks more to my imagination.

Nice processing in this especially the fog Jared. A nice warm feeling to this scene and more drama to the B&W version. Both are great but the B&W by a nose for me. :toast:

Colour for me all the way Jared.

Love your comp, the sweeping curve of mist is excellent with the tree tops poking through. I can only imagine how nice it must have been to witness this.

Gary.

Sweet! Event he trees without the waterfall would be a fine image. Maybe a little too much cyan it the far right cloud? Very minor, right place right time. Hope to see this view sometime, it is indeed a clasic and you have a fine interpretation of it.

I prefer the color version, the golden light hitting the fog is really nice. Nicely composed also.
