Light on Lotus

We have been having a lot of cloudy days and rain in Central Texas, which has been great for the region and also great for photography.

Took this on one such day with partial light on the lotus with most of the pond and leaves in shade. I took some shots with more dof and sharpness throughout the flower, but I liked the softer feel of this image a bit more.

Please see the large version.

Nikon D800 1/1000s @ f/8 ISO 500 Monopod

Thanks for taking a look and letting me know your thoughts.

Sanjay

This is excellent! The soft light works to mute the shadows so well. The buttery center gives the petals a delicate look. Solid details, esp enjoy seeing the large version. Yeah, that one petal suggests this lotus was camera-shy. Would have been nice for it to be a little lower. But, as is…this is a wonder-filled photo.

. I too like the softness of the petals, but also the sharpness of the center of the flower. I like the somewhat off set position of the flower. For my personal taste I would have cloned out the dark leaves. Excellent.

Beautiful lotus image, Sanjay. I like the light, the dark bg, and the dof. Just wish the center petal had cooperated a bit more, but still very nice.

Excellent Sanjay,
I like this as is and the large version is a must see. I agree with Ken's comments on the light, detail and buttery center. That center petal portrays a sense of shyness that sets this image apart and works well IMO. I also like the oof green leaves as they have perfect separation and add additional interest to this lovely composition.
Well done . . . :toast:

The LP's a pleasure to view, lovely work Sanjay.
I agree with the others, the 'buttery' center & delicate look is wonderful!

Spectacular look at this lotus blossom. I especially like the subtle yellows around the center and how the bloom stands out against the dark background.

My thought is: beautiful. The quality of this flower is the elegance and you have portraited it.
Take care.

Love this. I'm an amateur and I know how hard it can be to photograph white on flowers or birds. I love how the flower is poised and the 3D look to it. Good job.
