Howard Cheek's photo reminded me of something I had seen a few years ago. Encountered this drama while doing some weeding in my front yard. I enjoy seeing animals exhibit natural behavior and this was the first time I had seen something like this. Wish I had turned my camera around for a vertical composition; the garter snake was at least 18" long.
Powershot SX-1 with fixed zoom at 589mm equivalent, HH, ISO 250, f/5.7, 1/30, matrix metering with AWB. Adjusted midtones to increase the contrast and auto-sharpened on PSE. Comments and suggestions always welcome and thanks for viewing.

First thought was "Oh Wow" Jim!
Very graphic head on view of the action, good details.
The look on the toads face is rather grim, he's not having a very good day
Excellent entry for this WC! :toast:

Pretty amazing to think that that snake is going to succeed in swallowing that toad, which looks to be several times bigger than the snake's head. Neat catch.

The toad looks a bit down in the mouth here Jim. Great head on shot.

Sucks to be a toad on this particular day. I amazed that the snake can handle such a big meal.
