Wet Crayons

by Howard Cheek

Gallery: FloraPosted July 13, 2014122 views13 comments
I used some high-speed shooting to try & freeze the drops/movement, with a more distant group of flowers for background.
These are garden zinnias, and the water drops are from our garden sprinkler. The various colors/shades/patterns in the background reminded me of 'wet crayons'.
Call me strange
F/5.6, 1/3200th, ISO 400, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4x & sunny/clear afternoon light @ 5:37pm. Monopod for support & shot in a vertical orientation.

OK Mr. Strange. Only someone with an incredible background in coloring, or with a bunch of grandkids could come up with something like wet crayons. I really like the result of your experiment, Howard  Love the frozen water drops and a beautiful color pallet. I also like how the strange one is thinking out of the box. :jump:

Howard - Great experiment. Try for some streaks next time - I wonder how they would compare to the drops frozen here. I can give you some company when it comes to strangeness wrt colors in the background. I love those colorful backgrounds like you do.

Those frozen drops are wild, Howard. They look to me like raindrops on a window. Neat experiment, very well done! I like the background but think that cropping out about half of the oof area up top puts more emphasis on the drops and the one sharp zinnia.

Here's your version Mark..
Composed the original the way I did for two reasons.
Larger file (affects my consideration heavily), and I kinda liked the elliptical pattern of 'crayons' in the original URC..
