I was impressed by the small tree-size attained by sage brush when protected for many years from fire. I photographed these frost-covered individuals on 3Feb2012 from the Lamar roadside in Yellowstone National Park.

One of the consequences of fire protection is that a large fuel resource builds up, much like this. The 1988 Yellowstone fire was certainly proof of it—almost 800,000 acres burned in Yellowstone that year, stopped only by the advent of cool fall weather.

Ron - Great details in the large version. The trees are nicely set-off by the blue colored sky.

Ron:
Lovely image of trees and bg blue sky. I wonder about cropping a little off the lower edge to exclude the small band of white frost extending to the lower edge - kind of draw the eyes away from the trees.
