A downed and decaying pine near Happy Isles in Yosemite Valley.

I made a similar photograph of this tree last fall with my 4x5, but the original Astia chrome is slightly soft, most likely due to camera movement in the duff. So, when Harley and I returned to this spot this spring, I photographed it again with my D-7100. This image is the result.

Nikon D-7100
18-140mm @ 62mm
F-11 @ 1/10s, ISO 800
Cropped from both sides a bit
May 2014

Please see the large version. Thanks!

Nice abstract and good textures. It perfectly depicts the title you have chosen for it.

I like the polygons Preston as well as the fine textures. Also the muted color. No suggestions. I like the image as posted.

I'm gaining a new appreciation for wood and like how this is a completely different take on this subject. I like it and it feels real, but it seems like it could be developed more to bring out it's abstract qualities more.

Right off, I really like the natural look you captured, if I was standing there this is exactly what I would expect to see. Very nice natural color and detail, and your composition works beautifully. Again, good eye Preston, most photographers would have never seen it including me.

This is very nice, Preston! Interesting to see how this old pine is breaking up. It almost takes on the look of a broken down old cabin or home which is really quite interesting. Nice color and textures too. I like it!

Excellent perspective here Preston with what appears to be an interesting "breaking point" in the fallen pine. Kinda makes a neat jig-saw puzzle look for me. Colors, textures, grain, decay, weathering stains, all look natural and spot on.......

I like the square crop you chose for this one Preston, it has a very natural feel to it. Hard to choose between the two posts, I'd say you can't go wrong with either.

Preston: Well seen and very nicely composed. I like the textures especially. I do think I prefer the original just a bit but both look great.>=))>

I like this a lot. Carefully crafted and it tells a nice story.

EDIT - just noticed the repost. Much more life in the repost - well done.

I'm especially drawn to the sense of puzzle pieces about to be taken apart or pushed together. The details and the subtle colors work well to make it seems like I'm standing there looking. The repost adds a nice pop.
