Mono Lake Sunrise

The morning after the sunset image I posted a couple weeks ago. Taken during a week long May vacation to death valley/eastern SNs/lake Tahoe and Yosemite. The winds were still gusty, preventing any reflections, but the clouds over the Sierras were nice. I apologize for the unoriginal/iconic view. Single image, cropped to pano. D600, 24-70, GND. Comments, suggestions, and questions welcome. :wavey:

That's why they're icons Scott. (smile) No point in taking a weaker composition just to prove you can. Beautiful light and complementary colors between the mountains and the water. I like it a lot.

Ah. Home, sweet home. There's no place like Mono Lake and the East Side of the Sierra, and you've done very well here. The composition is nicely balanced--not easy to do at Mono. I like the light on the Sierra, and the clouds really set this apart. The choppy water doesn't bother me: the color you got there works well.

Nicely done, Scott.

The layered composition works for me. I suspect the grad you used was a bit too strong though. The background feels a bit dark compared to the foreground, which gives it a bit of a gloomy feel despite the wonderful warm light on the mountains. It's nothing you can't tweak in post processing though. With regard to the lack of reflection --- I'm not actually a big fan of reflections, so I wouldn't have noticed that had you not mentioned it. If anything, I think the choppy water gives a nice texture.

This looks like an amazing place. I like the light very much and for me the choppy water works works quite nice here.

You caught some fine light here, Scott. The comp is nicely balanced as well. I like the subtle reflections in the foreground water. I agree with Ben that the sunlit mountains and sky seem dark relative to the foreground.
