Summer storm

This thunderhead was estimated to be over 45,000 ft in height by the weather service. It was a magnificent display of lightening. Over 25 cloud to cloud strikes per minute.
It was hard to get a sharp focus as the strikes were to frequent.
Anyway, fun to observe.
Shot with Canon 5D3/70-200 at 130mm/f 2.8/13 sec/ ISO 800

I appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks Mark. I was out in Portland with Tula and your name came up. I am thinking about a fall return trip as the Gorge was pretty nice.

Fine catch on the storm and the few stars showing above. The sharpness of the features in the cloud is great. The larger version shows better without the black frame. I agree that cropping some of the black off the bottom would be good.

Spectacular image Gary. Would love to have seen it.

I agree that a crop from the bottom would better emphasize the storm and cloud but lots of impact as posted.

The pulsing power display is terrific. It reminds me of my childhood panic lying in a tent during a storm and seeing the light of a bolt surround me and hearing the clap at the same time…it starts in your gut and works out to the skin and eyeballs…. just an utter feeling of helplessness. I would only like (minor…minor) a bit more of the foreground details shown. Great shot as is!

Though I do like the revision crop, I'm also just fine with the original. The added breathing room is kinda nice. My only suggestion would be to ease up on the highlight recovery. It looks like you cranked it a bit too high, and your highlights have gone gray. I would either put some color back into those areas manually, or back off on the highlight recovery and just let them be nice and bright as they really should be.
