It's hard to believe that these are babies, given their size. From the shadows, it looks like you had some pretty harsh light. You made the best of it. Don't normally see ostrich picks very often. The chicks are a big bonus.

Ken,
I like the triangular arrangement of all these ostriches. I also concur with Jerry that you handled this light very well..............................Jim

Great fun to see how small they are.. I remember shooting them, but only isolated - the parent standing besides them makes the image for me ! Cheers, Hans

Very interesting shot. Something most of us will never see.

Ken - this such a cool frame of natural history! The techs are great and as others have said you handled the strong light nicely. For me there's just so much intrigue with the size/height difference in the mom and her offspring...it adds interest and even a little drama to the scene. If I had a nit, it would be that the OOF stump or rock in the background falls at an unfortunate place as it caused me to look a couple times. I always cringe when mentioning natural elements in a nature picture as a "problem," especially when there is rarely much the photographer could do beyond that which they already did in choosing camera angle, etc., but it caught my eye so...
I also really like the inclusion of the more distant background elements and tones at the top of the frame.
One cool family portrait!

Nice family portrait, Ken. I like the open beaks on a couple of the youngsters.
