This white-winged Dove lives in the pine tree in my front yard. I think their orange-brown eyes are beautiful.

Very painterly, Sharon. I had White-winged Doves when I lived in Texas. They have incredible eyes. Nice focus on the head.

Oh, no, It's not a pelican... The dove is beautiful and so is the background with it's matching colors. This is a fine head shot. It's quite tolerant to let you get this close. The eye looks just a touch soft but I think the neck feathers are sharp, so I'm guessing that the focus wasn't on it's head. Did you use auto focus and if so, have you checked its calibration?

I like the textured, oof bg, Sharon. Great view of the eye. I agree with Mark about the head/eye not being perfectly sharp. You might want to boost the iso and then shoot at a higher ss (especially if this was hh).

Hey Sharon, I agree with you that their eyes are beautiful. I really like the color palette you have here and the texture in the background. As others have already pointed out, the eye is a touch soft, but still works. I would echo Scott's suggestion of trying for a better SS next time
