Darner Eyes 2

Since Scott dropped a very special image in this week's challenge, The Eyes Have It, I thought I'd return the favor. This is a 25 shot stack of a Green Darner that had damaged it's wings during metamorphosis and couldn't fly. When it managed to get to shore of my pond on Tuesday, I was able to get some views at nearly 1.5X magnification. Taking the photos created an interesting mix of "how neat is this" and "how exploitive is this" in my head. (5D3, 100mm macro IS + 56mm ET, 1/4s, f/8, iso 800, tripod, cable release, and mirror lock up)

Another wow, Mark. I like the softer bg in this version vs. the one posted in WC, but I miss the sharp wings and legs. The eyes in the large version of this image are amazing. You certainly make good use of the opportunity created by the DF's misfortune, but your skill put this together. :toast:

Whether neat or exploitative, it's an opportunity any photog would take if they were so equipped and inclined. I know I would, without a moment's hesitation.

Mark, Very cool and impressive details. I do not know how big these little ones are but fully grown ones tend be pretty big.

Ram, these critters don't grow any after they metamorphose, so this one was full size.

Excellent detail/DOF in this great head-on look Mark.
"Taking the photos created an interesting mix of "how neat is this" and "how exploitive is this" in my head."
Since the DF could not fly, you did it a favor (You're off the hook).
At least this way it has it's five minutes of fame
