I went out yesterday & tried some Giant Swallowtail flight shots again.
This was shot without flash @ 11:04am, clear & sunny.
F/9, 1/2000th, IS0 1250, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4x with a 20mm extension ring.
Short low speed bursts using Al-Servo, with a lot of hit & miss as usual.
I use both One-Shot & Al Servo methods.. Kinda depends on what mood I'm in that day

Another beauty, Howard. Love the light on the wings the excellent detail. My first thought was to darken the bg, but I then decided it's fine as is. :toast:

Another great catch, Howard. The semi-back light on the bf really shows off the colors and shapes in the wing and you've got great detail in the head and eyes.

I really enjoy your closeup takes on these guys, Howard. An interesting look with the BG light hitting the one wing illuminating it from behind over the other wing without it. Kind of a neat effect there. Good job as always.....

Howard, you are the king of butterflies. Another awesome shot! And with the position of the wings and the flower stem, it's a perfect addition to the alphabet soup.
