Spent a few days at the Caineville badlands and come back with a few I'd like to share. Mostly the light didn't happen, but if you wonder around long enough, this country seeps into your consciousness in a way that never seizes to amaze me. I liked the way the light from the rising sun illuminated only half of these badland hills.

The hills to the right look distinctly different than those on the left. Were they different material? I'd like to see the color version too. Very nice graphic image and composition, especially the larger version.

Fantastic image, Gary! I love the graphic quality of this desert scene along with the textures and interplay of light and shadow. Beautifully done.

Excellent, Gary! I love the high contrast presentation, with the great shadow interplay and strong textures. It also works for me cropping off the top background hills. It becomes a bit more abstract. Real good stuff!

Gary, For me this is really a great looking b&w image. You made such good use of the light and shadow in this comp and I love the feel it has. Amazing textures and detail in the large version. Great work!

Gary, when I first looked and then read Harley's comment it was my exact thoughts here on this neat image. I think the top crop really makes the abstract view come to life. I do really like the B&W treatment along with the zig-zag of the arroyo.

Beautiful tones and textures and a great leading line Gary. Really like the rich blacks in this also. I agree about a small crop at the
top but not a big deal. Should make a great print. :toast:

Love this photograph - it has a very classic feel to it and the stark light works extremely well. Nicely done, Gary.

I like this high-contrast presentation: It's almost abstract. The tones a well separated, and the high values have nice detail. I agree with Harley regarding his crop suggestion for different look. Nice image!

"this country seeps into your consciousness in a way that never seizes to amaze me."

And then pictures just happen. Very nice texture and light. Could see trying this with a little less overall contrast.

This is really fine Gary. Great tones and use of shadow in your composition. I do think that the crop suggestion would be interesting. Superb black and white.
