'Darn Kids'

It was an overcast day when we came across a large family group of wild Rhesus Monkeys. This adult male was perched, in a protective manner, back in the shadows keeping an eye on 3 juveniles playing at the rivers edge. He appeared to have better things to do than wasting his day keeping an eye on those 'Darn Kids'. Hand held from boat, cropped to 65% of full frame with fill flash.

Love this pose, sort of reminds me of "The Thinker".
Looks deep in thought.. Although he's probably just trying to decide which kids butt need spankin' next:wink:

This is an excellent capture of one of the more "mundane" animals one expects to see in Africa. There's a nice pose by the animal and it's positioned against an attractive background. Nicely done especially it was taken in mid-afternoon. Richard

Hi Mike,

I really like the pose here - it's hard NOT to think this guy is contemplating SOMETHING!

I do wonder if a portrait (vertical) presentation might be more appropriate with this shot - with most of the cropping coming off the right side of the frame (to me this shot just "feels" like a natural vertical and doesn't suit a squarish crop).

Cheers...

Brad

Thanks Guys for taking the time to comment on this post, much appreciated.
Richard,
This may be a "mundane" animal in Africa but, this is a wild Florida Rhesus Monkey and when you encounter one of the large family groups along the river bank in the cypress swamps of the Ocala National Forest, it is far from a mundane experience.

I think you did a fine job of managing fill flash to illuminate the subject without it becoming immediately obvious. The pose and great eye contact are strong positives. I don't mind this squarish crop

Mike, this is a great look at this monkey. The pose is great and your flash really shows off the details and colors in his fur. The seating looks familiar, but I'll bet a lot of cypress roots look the same....

Mike: sorry that I wasn't more clear in my post. I placed mundane in quotes to indicate that the animal isn't mundane. Richard
