Point Imperial - North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, AZ

Nikon D800
Zeiss 50mm macro
LR, PS, TK's Actions

I tried to open this up some. The canyon was actually darker than this as I recall but I think this gives some sense of it. The platform is about eight feet across and I really enjoyed being there at dawn and having the whole thing to myself for the better part of an hour.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

Man, you struck gold with this southwest series you've been posting Pat! The light is subdued here, but the layers and detail make for a very compelling image, especially in the large version!

Real nice Pat, and I like it as presented, the dark mood and dappled light on the canyon walls is very appealing. Beautifully done.

Fantastic! Great job on the color and layers. One possibility to experiment with might be cropping down from the top as the dark band is slightly distracting.

Nice shot Pat with a great mood to it. Really nice details in the large version also. The dark top is a little distracting but not much cropping room up there. Beautiful tones and colors in the fore ground too. Very nice.

Thanks for the suggestion on the top. Unfortunately a crop cuts out too much of the sky and lightening just doesn't look natural to me. I appreciate the suggestion though. I've got several more shots similar to this, I'll see if I left more sky in which might tame the dark band.

Beautiful, Pat, a terrific GC photo.
Doing a screen scroll, it does look better without the dark band at the top, enough sky left for me....

Here's one without the band. I'm not wild about it and still plan to rework a similar image with a higher sky. Thank you for the suggestions though. I do appreciate them.

Pretty cool, Pat. It's hard for the North Rim to disappoint. Nice to have Point Imperial to yourself with this kind of light. Beautiful. :toast:

I like the second version best.

The light and processing seem to work well together. I like how the foreground formation is glowing and the contrast in the rest of the scene.

A bit eery with the view and overhead cloud cover, but also amazing depth here, Pat. Would have loved to have been here for this opening of the day.

Sweet image, Pat. You have been on a roll with these canyon shots recently. I particularly like the mood in this scene along with the subtle lighting on the FG rock formation. Keep them coming.

Pat: What a scene! Love the sky. I had a similar experience at this same place a couple years ago. Majestic.>=))>

PS: Just realized this won the WP. Well deserved. I do like the repost but prefer the original. Many kudos.
