Moth Light

Somehow over the past few months, my kitchen window sill has been endowed with 4 Orchid plants. They keep their blooms for quite a while.

From time to time in the late afternoon, I take one of the blooms into the living room where the afternoon sun causes the blossoms to look as tho' they are on fire.

This image was shot with manual exposure, a tripod, and cable release at 2 seconds, f/10, 105mm lens. It was cropped to a 5:4 aspect ratio for composition.

Processing occurred in ACR, PS layers for curves corrections and NIK SEP2 with selective coloring on the main orchid and stem.

C&C welcome.

Carol

Leopard-like coloring and neon orange glow make this jump out at me. The center and edges give the impression of a wide dof…but the soft spots suggest blurring. Orchids are such a mystery and difficult to adequately translate from ‘in person’ to the medium of a 2 D photo. Nicely done!

I like how you've brought attention to the center of the flower with focused areas of color. I think I would prefer this image with just the single flower. The high key looks good.

Works for me! I like esp how the almost b & w feel of the flower in background sets off the main subject even more.
