Autumn Beckons

Fall color is starting to show in the mountains around my Utah home. I haven't had a chance to head up and get a close look yet, but thinking about it tonight prompted me to revisit this image from Zion last November. This is a different exposure of the same scene I posted last year: IMAGE.

I cropped out the foreground rock since that was the consensus from feedback last time. It's also a slightly faster shutter speed (0.4 sec) so the water isn't as "silky" but because there was a slight breeze the leaves should be sharper on this one. I was also a little more aggressive with the processing this time. I'd like to think it's an improvement over last year, but who knows. Thanks for sharing your general thoughts and any specific recommendations for improvement.

Jared,

For my tastes this is a much stronger image than the first. Very painterly and very beautiful. The processing is also much better to my eye. I like the dark upper corner against the golden leaves - makes them pop more I think. I also like the complementary textures and the mix of colors in the image. I like this a lot.

Jared, an improvement for sure. Much better without foreground rock. Maybe the saturation is a little high for me.. But it was not enough in the first shot. Great get you in a fall mood shot! :toast:

This is exceptional, Jared. I really like the warmth of the BG with the yellow leaves against the red rock face and the SS is perfect. I also prefer this image.

Hello Jared, I know that spot and have made many images there myself. This one is very nice and I like the shutter speed used.

Simple and beautiful image! The autumn foliage pop out well in the scene. Nice choice of shutter speed to show the texture in water flow.

Really good! With Fall coming, this image really whets my appetite for getting out for some color. Love the water flow texture, and overall strong comp and color.

Nicely done, Jared. The color is wonderful, and the processing looks spot-on to me. The water looks quite nice, and I like the choice of shutter speed--not too fast, nor to slow.

Nice!

For me perfect shutter speed for the water. The saturation looks fine, even though you forced me to look again at your previous post. I too prefer without the rock.

Jared, I like this image very much! I love the looks of the rushing water and think that 0.4 sec. shutter speed worked perfectly. The light and glow of the the trees against the canyon wall has such an inviting feel. Very nice work!

Wow, Jared, absolutely gorgeous. Superb in every way. I do not see how this could be any better. My only suggestion is to make a very large print.

Dig it. Reminds me of GT's work. If shooting digital can always do a faster ss for the foliage and blend. Dig the overall processing here :)

Jared, I really like the motion that you captured in the water, with a good sense of flow plus some fine details and some nice colors. The trees of the far bank have a fine fall glow and contrast well with the red rock walls behind. The colors in the trees and the wall feel a bit over saturated to me. This image is distinctly more inviting than the previous version.

WOW. This really pops. Perfect shutter speed, excellent composition, and I love the way the yellow leaves jump off the screen against that dark BG. Try as I might, I cannot find any nits at all.

This is a much stronger image, IMO. The water provides enough foreground interest and I like the 0.4 sec exposure on it. The colors pop here and seem true to what it really looks like. Great image!
