Barred Owl and repost

This was taken on Vancouver Island. We were driving when I spotted what I thought was an owl in a tree alongside the road. There was no place to stop or turn around so we kept going. My wife had noted a blue mark on a nearby tree. At least an hour later we came back on the same road, we spotted the blue mark and the owl was still there. This time I found a spot to pull off. Sometimes you just get lucky!

Canon 7D
100-400 mm lens at 340 mm

ISO 400

Thanks for looking. Comments and suggestions appreciated.

You have a nice light and the image is very sharp. The owl is nicely framed by the two trees, but I feel a more vertical composition would also work. The tail feathers seem to have a slightly bluish cast. :toast:

Nice species to have in front of the lens. Nicely freestanding as well. The blue cast is also on my monitor, maybe tweak the WB a little. Pretty image ! Cheers, Hans

I like this a lot. Framed between the two trees works really well. Nice eye contact from the owl. I am also seeing the blue cast. Should be an easy fix. Great job and yes sometimes we get lucky. That's where persistence pays off. :toast:

Thanks for the suggestions. I removed the obvious (why didn't I see it?) blue cast and cropped to a more vertical perspective.

Excellent capture Allen ! Great details and very nice lighting. I too like the framing of the bird by 2 trees. :toast:
