The Beginning of the End

This photograph is a tribute to a dear friend who died today after a long battle with bone cancer. He was my biggest fan as an artist and I will miss him greatly. It signifies the end of of one thing and the beginning of another. I have struggled recently to be a part of this forum and I hope this will bring me back. Some people touch you deeply and this is one of those times.

gary - saddened to hear of your loss of a close friend: tough times indeed.

the image is a fine tribute with compelling sparkling light, tones, textures and lines - that's what b&w photography is about!

Very sorry to hear of your loss Gary, and I've been there more times that I care to remember, and I will be there again in a few short months, there is nothing I can say to make you feel better, but I do know your pain. Remember the good times, and live each day the best you can. Beautiful tribute.

Beautiful black and white Gary. I particularly like the composition - the waves moving in one direction and the rivulets moving perpendicular and consolidating - a study in perspective. Interesting textures and tones as well. A somber image and a very fitting tribute.

I'm sorry for your loss. May you be free from suffering.

First off I am sorry for your loss, Gary. Friends and family are always dear to the heart and their passing is always tough. I think he would be smiling with your tribute to your friendship. The photo is a beautiful B&W with a wonderful of tones and textures and the light is exquisite.

I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your friend, Gary. He'll always be there in your head and heart.

The image is fantastic. The more I look the more things I see in the layers of shapes and texture. I'm drawn in by the brighter curve, but held by that darker area to its left. There are so many connected shapes its like the experience of watching clouds. I slept on it, came back and took another look and saw something new right away.

Beautiful image as a tribute. Great lines, textures and tones. It has a real nice abstract look.

Hi Gary, terribly sorry to hear about your friend! That's quite a loss. I also definitely understand that we all go through ups and downs, especially artistically. For me, I don't worry about them too much because I usually come out the other end energized and with a renewed sense of vision. The "is this better than the last one" muse is a real nasty boss and when I get that way I go back to why I enjoy photography...it's about loving the natural world and hoping to share a bit of that love.

The various "S" curves in this are wonderful and how the lead to a vanishing point at the top works well. Maybe it's me reacting to the rest of your post, but it does fell melancholy.

Hard to accept Gary. But with this great tribute he lives on in your heart.

"When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home."
