I spent the afternoon on Thursday shooting a VERY cooperative short-eared owl in some killer light. Had a blast!! This is one of my favorites. 90% of the frame. Thanks for looking!

If the bird were a cooperative model and you'd told it how to pose, I'm not sure you could have done better than this -- and then to capture it perfectly! :toast: :toast:

Perfect shot. I only have one question, did you use the Jim Zipp technique of "squeaking like a mouse" to make him look?

No, the owl was looking around on it's owm. I just took a lot of images and waited for it to turn it's head.

Garth, when I grow up I want to get a shot like this. (P.S. I am 62 today and wondering when or if I ever will grow up). I love owls and this shot is simply the most!! The cats meow (or pajamas). Really peachy keen!! Where was this? :toast:

This is fantastic! What an inspiration.

I got a show from some short ears the other day, but right before dark on a cloudy snowy day. This photo has got me scheming ways out of work sometime this week as the sun is suppose to be out.

Garth: It doesn't get any better than this. It almost appears as if the owl is taking direction. Did you ask it to make several passes and use different expressions.

Bravo and well done!!! You're my hero!

You guys make me think I have no business shooting birds and shoot find another hobby! This is incredible to say the least. It's well composed, the bird is colorful, and I love the simplicity of the shot.
