This is a panning shot across a flower pot that was on the patio of a commercial building. The dark BG is the result of a shaded area, directly behind the flower pot which was in full sun.

This is one from a series, where I panned at a bunch of different speeds and movements (straight or in an arc). It is almost full frame. I tried various crops, as I really like the purple on the left and was trying to make it more of a focal point, but ended up just trimming some edge space from the left.

ISO 200, 70-300mm lens at 188mm, 1/15 sec at f/40, -1/3EV

Your comp. works very well here, Karen. It creates fine splashes of color with the white and green adding color contrast. I like the dark space on the left and find myself wondering about a similar space on the right, but keep in mind that my wife routinely calls me a "symmetry nut" .

Love the flow of this, Karen, which gives a very dynamic feel to the image. My own preference would be for the purple to flow absolutely from the edge, but I can see a case for the emergence from the dark. Whatever, it's a striking image.

Striking colors, Karen! I like the pattern and the dark area on the left. I think cropping some from the top may help fill-up the frame a bit more. But, I like it as is too. Well taken!
