This Wavyleaf Thistle (undulatum) caught my eye at the edge of a field basking in the sunlight. One sot, hand held, 50% of full frame.

This has a great 3-D quality and excellent control of contrast despite being in direct sunlight. Very nice.

An interesting bloom/plant Mike. The plant stands out nicely against the BG. I could use a bit more sharpness (no pun intended) out of the stem and the leaf.

Nicely captured, Mike. Excellent use of the dark shade and color gradient bg.

Mike:

Interesting image and I like how the thistle is spotlighted and stands out from the darkish bg. The thistle is pretty sharp for hand holding with 400mm. :toast:

Mike - Really like the colors, sharpness and more importantly that slight incline which has put the focus square on the top face of the flower. :toast:

Excellent lighting, Mike, bringing out not just the flower but the filaments strung along the top and side. On a nicely graded bg this really grabs your eye !

Mike: Terrific lighting and excellent BG. My only suggestion would be to give it a touch more room on the bottom so that the juncture of the leaf and stem could be seen. As is the leaf is kind of hanging out there by itself disconnected. Still a superb find and capture.>=))>

Beautiful take on this thistle, Mike. The colors really pop against the black background. I also like that the entire head is sharp.
