A very beautiful bird and the cricket in the beak adds interest.
To my eye though it looks very dark and could do with lightening a bit to bring out the wonderful plumage colours a bit more brightly

Cool moment with the cricket breakfast. The light didn't appear to be much help here. It has a backlit look to the bird, but the shadows on the perch leads me to believe the light was from the top right?? Needs some post processing tweak to help out the bird.

Martin expressed my thoughts exactly. Selectively warming and brightening the bird should lift this up a notch or two!

Great to get him with the cricket and a nice perch. As posted it's too dark, without sun against a pale sky you probably had to be more like +1.0 EV or use fill flash. If you lighten it up that will improve it.

Really like the pose, the thorn perch and the meal in this one Ken. Agree the bird needs some selective lightening...If it were mine, I might just bring up the shadows a bit in LR...when I do that I usually give a slight boost to the contrast also.

Cool moment. Tough light. I'm with Nate: fill flash or an Ev of +1.3 or 1.6.
