Water on Water

Well, it's been a million years since i posted here, but i actually have a rare few minutes to spare, so here's one from a nearby state park (Mueller) that i took a couple weeks back. I've kind of outgrown my desire for lots of critique, but I do appreciate how one can speak their mind on this site as opposed to those 'other' unmentionable sites where it's all about ego-boosting or popularity contests. I do need to get to at least 20,000 comments, so that ought to keep me on board for at least a little while...

As the title suggests, the weird thing about these aspen leaves floating on a pond were the little drops of water (melted snow I suspect, since it snowed a bit the night before) floating on the leaves, in turn floating on the pond. Focus stack at 100mm, 5Dmkii.

Way cool, Stan! Another nice thing about this is the way the leaves are pretty evenly spread out on the water. Good idea to make a stack.

Just drank some beer while watching game 7 (Congrats to both teams for a great Series!) so I can't think of anything else to say, but if I do, I'll comment again. Thanks for hanging in there to reach 20,000 comments, and all much better than "Nice shot." .

Great pattern picture Stan. Very striking even in minature from the thumbnail. Like the diamonds on the leaves. I thought Aspen were more yellow than that.

mercury on leaves on water, i'd say. nice one, stan, and good to see something from you (as evidence that you're alive, at least). i'm wondering whether a crafty conversion to b&w might be interesting? but i would say that, wouldn't I? there's a blurry bit over there to the left so wondering about your focus stack?

[edit] edited my last sentence as i realised i had read your blurb wrong. what happens after 20,000?

Very artistic image, I really like it. The colors, the composition, the water drops and the way the leaves are so evenly spread across the water, both in relation to each other and color all work together to make this a great image. And no I am not just trying to stroke your ego.

I like the leaves Stan but it's the droplets that make the image for me. Love the mercury look from the reflections.

Stan, beautiful composition of color, I would like this even without the droplets. Beautifully seen and presented.

This is a frame filling delight, Stan. Really great eye to spot this scene. The water drops on the aspen leaves add another element to this beautiful image.

Terrific view, Stan. The two colors of leaves (tops & bottoms??) work really well and the drops of water are outstanding addition.

Stuart--great minds think alike, I posted this originally on FB as a B&W--here it is
After 20,000 I retire and sell t-shirts that say '20,000 comments!'
Ian--this was an odd season, a lot of orange and red aspen leaves, way more than usual, I haven't seen so much non-yellow aspen since I moved to CO!

Very nicely done, Stan! The patterns of the floating leaves looks fantastic and the water drops just add that much more. I always love the color of the aspen leaves and floating in the dark pond really makes them stand out.
Edit: I have seen a lot of aspen leaves of similar color here in WI as well.
Didn't see the b&w version before and it too looks great. I like both versions a lot.

The composition works well for me. As you mentioned the water droplets really seal the deal on this one. Very nicely done.

Wow Stan,
This is wonderfully seen and captured, and I love how the water on the leaves look like liquid silver. This would be great seen large, and I just saw the repost. Both images work beautifully.

Stanley, I gotta say that this is really sweet. The b/w is also very nice and I'm having a hard time deciding which version I like best. Very cool. Glad to see that art still occupies your mind.

Gary--yes, short of a lobotomy I think art will probably always consume me. Ive got a new music video coming out in a couple days that is a compilation of fall scenes this season--stills, video, and time lapse.
