Bighorn Pair

I followed a large group of Bighorns for awhile in a snowstorm in Zion last winter, watching them paw through the snow to get at vegetation underneath. It wasn't easy going, especially since I couldn't really tell what I was stepping into, but it was a really great experience. I got this photo of these two looking back at me after I stumbled over hidden rocks and caught their attention.

I like this a lot Thomas. Love the look from the one on the left. If you have the canvass, I would recover some of the virtual legs and slide the image to the right or add more canvass on the left.

A beautiful scene in impressive winter conditions. I really like how you were able to capture good detail in the falling snow. Too bad there wasn't slightly more separation between their heads but nothing you can do about that. :toast:

Love this winter scene, the large one shows the real quality of this shot.

I like the head turn you managed to get here Thomas. I do wish you had a bit more room on the bottom and would consider a crop which placed them on the right if you have the extra canvas. But I do like the environment and feel of this image very much. It does seem you have the tiniest magenta overcast....but could be my monitor....was having some issues with it earlier in the week...I think I fixed them, so let's see if someone else confirms first.

Thomas,
At first look this seems very light, but it actually not.
I find the muted colour very different, and there is certainly good detail,
I might consider adding some canvas at the bottom to give room for the virtual feet, but no big deal.

Thanks so much for the comments. I hadn't thought about increasing canvas on the bottom, but I do think it would be an improvement. Guess that's why I post here

I like this a lot and personally wouldn't change a thing. The amount of 'room' at the bottom accentuates the feeling of tough conditions in deep snow. The other environmental elements are a nice touch and harmonize nicely with the animals. Sounds like a feat to get this image; I'd sure be proud of it.

Hi Thomas,

Real interesting shot. Overall I like the feeling this shot communicates. If this were mine I'd experiment (through adding canvas and/or changing the crop if possible) with "sliding" the subjects both a little to the right and a little up. One "in a perfect world" thought...almost wish that head turn could be retained with a slight shift of the angle of the bodies so that the butts weren't quite so dominant in the composition (but I realize there isn't a thing you could do about that).

I too noticed the slight magenta cast Kurt was referring to...

Cheers...

Brad

I really like the atmosphere in this image and it's great that you managed to get the eye contact. A bit more space at the bottom would have been ideal.
