I wanted to try a little different processing on one of the Bryce images.

Nikon D800
Zeiss 100 mm
LR, PS, TK's actions, NIK Silver Efex

Comments and suggestions welcome.

Quite a scene. Pat. Very different take on Bryce. I really the storm clouds on the horizon and the detail in the canyon. For some reason, I want to tilt the image a degree or so ccw, but probably just an optical illusion. Another excellent Bryce image. :toast:

Excellent! How did you use Silver Efex? I've used it as an under-lay before, but this doesn't look like that.

Thanks for the comments you all. I appreciate them.

Phil,

It's basically a black and white underlay at low opacity. I'm just playing with it. I think it would probably be simpler and just as effective to use NIK's bleach bypass in Color Efex and plan to play with that too. And if I were better with PS I could probably do everything I want there without using Silver Efex or Color Efex. Glad you like it though. I'll be interested in the other comments I get.

This actually seemed more realistic to me than the simpler processing approach alone. It seemed to better recreate the tones and mood that I remember.

Wow! This is definitely interesting and creative. While it's not something I would do, I can appreciate it and enjoy it none the less. Nice work!

It's a neat treatment, Pat. I like the pano look at the hoodoos and the yellow clouds provide a special bit of contrasting color. My initial reaction was that there's too much contrast in the hoodoos, but as I spend more time looking that has stopped bothering me.

I like the look and overall effect here, Pat. Maybe seems to help lift the darker side of the scene a bit too? The capture in itself is very impressive also.
I do get a feeling of a slight tip to the right, might be optical confusion on my part, but will see if anyone else sees or feels the same. Excellent image.

Very nice take on Bryce, Pat. I am interested in your use of SEP to underlay this shot. Something that has never occurred to me. I'll have to play around with it. Love the boiling clouds and the different light in the canyon as a result of your processing. :toast:

Lovely color, and nice detail, Pat. I'd like to see more of the sky, but this works well as-is. I see the clock-wise tilt, too. One minor nit: I think the trees in the canyon are tad too dark. I like the color contrast between the sky and the canyon.

Thanks all.

I'm on the road but will brighten the trees and adjust the tilt when I get home tomorrow.

Your treatment of the mountains is gorgeous. My only subjective nhit is I'd like less saturation in the sky that I think would complement more than distract.
