Parrot Snake

I found this beauty slithering along a trail in Costa Rica. Once it saw that it had been spotted, it hovered in place, trying to blend into its surroundings.

I tried to keep my distance by going with a 70-200 + 1.4x combo, which turned out to be incredibly soft. So this image (and the rest of the series) ended up sharp enough for web and medium sized printing, but unfortunately it probably won't work for larger prints. Afterward, I ditched that 70-200 for the new version, so hopefully the combination with the teleconverter will work a little better from now on.

Canon 1D Mark IV
Canon 70-200mm 2.8 IS (v1) + 1.4x TC
ISO 800
1/200th
f/3.5

I fine catch, Max, regardless of the problem with your combination of lenses. This little beauty's hiding behavior worked out really well for you, pausing in light that perfectly highlights its colors and textures. The lovely colors of both snake and background illustrate how that behavior would hide the critter.

Very good, Max. I like the way the snake stands out form the bg even though the bg colors closely match the colors of the snake. Nice pose with a excellent view of the eye. :toast:

Lovely look at this little one, Max, with excellent detail in the snake and a well coordinated background.

Looks fine to me. I like the composition and bright green color in the snake. Nice shot!
