Tangle Falls

On the way up to these falls on the Ice Fields Parkway, I happened to look down at my gas gage and noticed I was down to a quarter tank. No problem I thought, rather than double back to Lake Louise, which was about 15 miles behind me, I figured I would just get gas at the Saskatchewan Crossing and pay the higher price. When I got there though it was closed,...... dohhhhhhhh. Now considerably low on gas I had no choice but to go back nearly 50 miles. Luckily I made it without running out and was able to return and get this shot. Thanks for looking, comments appreciated.

lovely, sharp image with a great, muted palette. those thrill seekers out there might think that there's not enough colour in this for their psychedelic tastes but it's damned near perfect to me. I would experiment with cropping off the log at the bottom - see how you feel about that.

I too like the muted colors here, although I would like to see what a small boost in saturation might do. And that log might be expendable.

Really nice scene Cary and I particularly like the composition. I might increase the contrast a bit. Other than that, no suggestions.

An option to adjusting the saturation might be to just adjust curves a bit. Looks a bit over exposted and lacking contrast. May appear more saturated after this adjustment. I say the log interrupts the flow of the image.

This is real nice. I like it uncropped. But I might experiment with pulling in the black point just a bit to get a touch more contrast. Bummer about having to go back for the gas, but worth the drive to get this.

I like the understated nature of this image, Carey. Very pleasing and it displays the chill in the air very nicely. Glad to hear the gas held out.

I do enjoy this image as posted, but would like to play around with it a bit to see what else I could come up with Carey. The image has out west rustic beauty to it, and I dig it.

I can see where the log hamper the flow a bit, and maybe would consider a crop, but either way sweet image.

I sure like how the falls steps and shifts its way down the cliff. I think the muted colors and hints of snow work well also. Add me to those who think a contrast bump would be nice here.

Very nice comp with a nice flow to it Carey. I agree on it needing a contast boost especially the midtones. Maybe a bit of green saturation to pop the trees out slightly. This is a very nice scene as is though and glad you made it to gas.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I get what you mean needing more contrast and saturation but whenever I tried boosting it the scene kind of started to look harsh to my eye so I tried something different. Here's a version with just a slight boost but a lot of dodging and burning. Please let me know if it's an improvement. As to cropping out the log, I thought the same when I was in the field, so I took a few shots that cut it out of the frame. I'll have to develop those later on.
