This is one of my favorites from earlier this year. It was a phenomenal morning of light and shadow and I liked how the foreground lit up as the light swept across the badlands.

Thanks so much on your comments on my previous image and I would appreciate your comments and critiques on this one.

Wonderful image, Gary. The layers of light and dark, and great shadow patterns really set this image apart. I can see why it's one of your favorites (one of mine as well). :toast:

I'm going with Wayne's "masterpiece" Gary. Don't think I can improve on that description.

I too will echo Wayne's characterization, an incredible masterpiece, Gary. The dynamic movement of line and form, not to mention the stunning tonality, make this one awe inspiring image. Exquisite.

Gary, this is a really nice image. A favorite characteristic is that no matter how long I look it over, it's difficult to determine its scale (e.g., is the scene 100 yards wide or a half mile mile wide?). Also, I like the straight-on view draws my eyes up each ridge and ravine.

I agree about the foreground. It makes a great contrast with the upper portions of the frame. Love the black and white presentation too. I can't find anything to critique at all. Really fantastic shot!

This is very nice Gary, I find it quite intriguing. As mentioned the play of light is just terrific. I would also like to see a colour version of this if you have one.

Cheers, Gary.

Gary,

Wow look at those tones, this capture has a beautiful elegance about it. Then play of the light and shadow is sweet, and the shapes could keep you exploring for a good long while.

Outstanding work in photography

My Kudos, just terrific, Gary.
I don't know how you achieved this "flat", 3d looking range?
Excellent eye as usual...

That's a wonderful cascade of sharply defined erosion channels, Gary. I'm really enjoying how they end in the softer rounded hills at the bottom and finally the flat area that looks like a stream bed. The varying brightness at the bottom adds additional interest.

Splendid image here, Gary. Overall you've got this area of Utah dialed in and it shows up with such stunning scenes like we see here with this one. Of course it does take a bit of "nature" to kick in at the right time too with the excellent light to improve upon your anticipated photographic endeavor.
I love this area of Utah and hope to make a trip to Hanksville and shoot the locale in the near future. Seems like I'm always passing through here and never enough time to take it all in.
