Kingbird

Hey everyone!! Here's a photo I captured of a Kingbird. We had noticed several kingbirds on our land getting ready to start nesting. Even though they were right on our land, my best image came from 15 minutes down the road! My dad and I were looking for mule deer bucks to photograph, but weren't coming across any. We stopped the truck to get a closer look at something with the binoculars, when I spotted a couple kingbirds right beside us!! I told my dad and we started snapping away.

I'm really happy with the way this one turned out! Let me know what y'all think!

Thanks for lookin'!

Love that background color -- lets all the other colors shine. Mixed feelings about the perch -- might try cutting about 50%of the perch for more emphasis on the bird -- at any rate -- I really like the colors in this shot

Jenaya: Great bird on a nice branch. Nice background. I'm struggling with the post. Doesn't add to the overall composition for me. Have you tried some alternate compositions? I'm sure you probably shot some other variations if you had the chance while it was happening.

Jenaya,
I can speak for many members when I say we truly enjoy your photos and your fresh approach to the craft we love. This is another wonderful photo. At the risk of piling on, I agree with Keith's comment about experimenting with different crops. I agree that you may find something you like better. Thank you for your enthusiasm and willingness to be critiqued by other members. Keep up the good work.

Jenaya: I like this one as is and also like the idea of a crop to put more emphasis on the bird. But I still like the original more. There's a uniqueness to it. In one sense, it's more typical of the type of shot one sees from European photographers. With far less wild area on that continent, European photographers are content to photograph with man made objects in the frame. That's likely because they have less choice to do so.
If you had captured the bird siting on a stop sign, that would be one thing. But the bird is sitting on a curved branch overhanging a post that is unobtrusive to me. It's much like what one would see on a farm.
Last, the background is nicely rendered. Richard

I like the placement of the bird for the frame ratio you shot this at Jenaya, but like Keith I also find myself fighting with the decision to leave the post. I just don't think it adds anything. If your camera has the IQ, I might crop this to a 2x3 removing the entire post and keeping the top half.

Hi Jenaya,

I really like the pastel color tones of this photo. A great bird posing nicely on that very photogenic bush, and although I like the colors in the post, I do find myself wishing it wasn't there.
