Say's Phoebe

November 8, 2014. Tjie Poo and I went to Canyon Park, Huntington Beach, California to photograph Northern Flickers. He had seen dozens there the Saturday before. The entire morning we saw two and they were not close enough or positioned to get even one decent shot. But, this Say's Phoebe took pity on us and posed repeatedly with the sun on his face and a background that required no attention.

Nikon D800 Nikkor 600mm 1.4 TC 850mm ISO500 1/1250 f/10 White Balance Auto RAW Processed in Lightroom, NIK, PhotoshopCC14, and TK.

Beautiful shot Patrick, I'm not usually a fan of squarish crops but this works well with the perch curving down like that. :toast:

This one's a beauty Patrick. I think the background compliments the bird and it's perch perfectly.

Tjie reminded me that Canyon Park is in Costa Mesa, not Huntington Beach, which is nearby. :wavey:

Great light, pose, and background. Not a fan of square crops, but it works well here.

Nice muted tones Patrick. I like the way the perch arcs downwards
