664 - Small in the frame:

An older photo of a pair of trumpeter swans that were showing up every year in a pond near my home. I often sat on the bank for hours and just watched them.

The narrow aperture was intentional because the grasses and leaves in the background were such a significant part of the atmosphere and the overall visual impact of the scene. In other words, I was shooting the scene, not just the birds. Guess that comes from being primarily a landscape photographer

I agree that the small aperture was the right call - it is the whole scene that works very well, not just the swans. And I really like the dark background, it has plenty of detail and sets the mood very well. Beautiful photograph!

Love the white swans against all of those luscious greens, Gary. I agree that most of this scene is about the greens, but the swans really make the image. In the larger version I do find myself wishing for a bit more contrast between the swans heads and the dark waters...a minor nit on a very inviting image.

Hi Gary :wavey: Beautiful colors, and background. i agree the image invokes a serene mood...But.for a winning shot, i would prefer a smaller swan
