Getting up early and heading down to Vermillion Lakes is finally starting to pay off. Had some amazing sunrises this trip to Banff. This was taken just before sunrise. The light show started early and it was thrilling to watch the colors change from smooth cool tones to exploding warm pinks, orangey yellows and electric blues. Some of you mentioned warming up my previous image, hope this satisfies  Because the wind was strong up high, I set my iso at 800 so I could get a higher shutter speed and retain some of the fine details in the clouds. Probably could have went one more.

Thanks for looking.

One of the very best Vermillion shots I've seen.

Impressive capture. The colors are peaking just before the sun blows it all away and the mountains covered with snow and the reflections are gorgeous. Beautiful.

Wow, spectacular! Nothing to suggest really. I agree about this being one of the nicest I have seen from this location.

I am glad the clouds are not blurred. The light is gorgeous and there is detail where it needs to be. Very nice, Carey!

Just a beautiful image, Carey. My very minor suggestion would be to clone out those tiny tufts of grass on the bottom edge. Looks chil-ly!

I like the contours in the foreground ice - it's interesting that it sort of mimics the ridgeline of Mt. Rundle. Of course I would be remiss not to mention such an amazing sunrise. Beautiful image and nicely composed.

Thanks very much everyone.

D.A., should be an easy fix removing the grass.

Brian, exactly what I was thinking when I found this spot. Thought it looked like the template for the mountain face and the overlapping sheets of ice mimic the rock layers. Glad you noticed. :toast:
