Cool colors, nice exposure and great action. Wish the bird was turned a bit more

I've never seen this species. Are they really that blue across the back of the neck and back? The combs would be about right for a Spruce Grouse, Alaska's analogue for this species. Great capture with the tail flare and call; I agree the body angle isn't ideal but sometimes the bird doesn't get the memo...

Thanks Luke agree about the head turn, Jim even though it was a shot taken in the morning light the blue sheen is about right, like your comment about the bird not getting the memo .

Keith,
You have lots of feedback from others about the head turn and position. I have no point of reference about the wattle color. I think this is a very interesting bird and look forward to future shots from you.

Love the white tail on this guy. Reminds me of a coot. The only thing that would have made this better is if he had turned a bit more so that he was facing the camera. But then you would have missed the cool tail. Well done.

WOW, other than the head turn this has everything going for it. Great exposure on this blacks and the whites Keith. love the display and particularly like the smooth gradient you captured in the foreground and the background. Since I don't know this bird I can't give you any feedback on the red. Sorry. Otherwise, very nice capture.
