Frozen Fire

Did what I could to avoid that much used title of "Fire & Ice". I wanted to combine the ice with an additional element to make it more interesting. I waited for some warm light to fall upon the frozen lake. Since I wasn’t too interested in shooting the grand landscape at this location, it was no hardship to spend a bit of time setting up a telephoto frame. Been a while since I've had to save at 50% to get the file size down to fit.

Astonishing Kah Kit. The bubbles I have seen before though they are very nice, but the rings of fire are a real revelation. Is this distorted highlights from a sunset sky or tangential sunlight hitting ice that isn't quite flat. It sounds like the latter but it is very odd and definitely a unique look.

That's spectacular. Love the abstract shape of the magentas reflected in the ice. Also the contrasting shapes of the large circular bubbles, horizontal "blobs" of reflected light, and the perpendicular, tiny lines air bubbles(?) all work very well together

Holy Moly!!! This is phenomenal Kah Kit! This far surpasses the quality it takes to be a superior image; this is in a league of its own. So beautiful.

That is one unique photo, excellent stuff! I wonder how the "rings of fire" are formed, because flat ice wouldn't cause that, so I guess the ice wasn't perfectly flat??

Nice work. It's a fine abstract. I'm assuming this is Abraham Lake, so I'm very glad you didn't shoot the landscape shot that we've seen about a bazillion times now.

Wow, this would be a cool shot with just the cool color elements (accidental choice of words, I swear), but your idea to wait for and capture those hot colors just puts this in a class by itself. It is fascinating to realize that this could be a capture of a moment of reality rather than an equally amazing product of a painter's imagination.

The subtleness combines well with all of the details to make this one to look at for a long time.

Really cool and still not quite sure what's going on. Just reflected light from the mtn? Great stuff.

Kah Kit: Really well seen, conceived and captured. The larger version is just a delight and I could explore it for hours. This would make a wonderful large print. Most excellent.>=))>

don't really know what this is, but some really cool patterns and shapes. I can see the bubbles, but don't really understand the reddish colors.

This is very cool, and really different. You might consider a crop of some of the blue from the very top, but this works nicely as is. I love the reds and the blues, along with all the interesting textures.

Thanks all. This is the frozen surface of Abraham Lake, known for the methane bubbles in winter. The red is reflected sunset light.
